Fimmvörðuháls and Laugavegur trails.

We will start this trek by walking along the Fimmvörðuháls (Icelandic for "five cairns pass"), from the Skógafoss waterfall to the glacial valley of Þórsmörk (63°42′10″N 19°25′38″W) . The Fimmvörðuháls is the area between the glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull in southern Iceland.

We will then continue along the Laugavegur, which is a famous trekking route in South-West Iceland from Þórsmörk to the hot springs area of Landmannalaugar (63°59′28″N 19°03′37″W).

Fimmvörðuháls

The route between Skógar and Þórsmörk goes between the famous volcano that pissed us off in 2010 and the Mydralsjökull glacier and is one of the most popular walking routes in Iceland, despite being 22 km long and involving 1,000 m of climbing.

While many hikers do this part in one leg, we will split it into two days, to enjoy the scenery, overnighting at one of the two mountain huts and camps along the trail.

Laugavegur

It is noted for the wide variety of landscapes that are experienced in just 55 km (34 mi). The route is typically completed over 2–4 days with potential stops at the mountain huts at Hrafntinnusker, Álftavatn, Hvanngil and Emstrur.
